# A0003 - How to create mattes in After Effects Using ID Matte Effect? #
Instructor : Pradeep Mamgain
Many 3D programs are capable of tagging each object of the scene known as Object ID. We can use that object ID information to create a mask. ID Matte effect is specially designed for this purpose in After Effects. You can not only create a matte but you can also feather the mask and if your image has coverage auxiliary channel you can also control the anti-aliasing.

[A]. Download the project and extract footage.rpf. Import it inside After Effects and drop it on new comp icon.[B]. Apply ID Matte effect to the layer. Select Object ID from Aux. Channel drop down. Now as we did in Fusion you can type in the object ID and After Effects will create mask for you. Type 1 in the box and you would get something like in b2.

[C]. Another way of selection is, make sure that Select Tool is selected and also the Effect is selected in Effect Panel and now you can click on any object in the scene to select it. Feather determines the amount of feather along the edges of the matte. Coverage option uses Coverage Auxiliary channel to create a cleaner matte, removing the colors stored behind the object.

[D]. This is the process of creating ID Matte. Do come back for more tutorials.
