Instructor - Pradeep Mamgain
+ 3D Navigation +
Use CTRL+ Down arrow to maximize the viewport. By default blender MMB operation is roate the view, since we have changed it to PAN in preferences; use Shift+MMB to rotate the view. MMB drag will pan the view. Alternatively you can rotate the view by 15 degree increments, using 4, 6, 8 and 2 keys on the numeric keypad. Likewise translate using CTRL+Arrow Keys in numeric keypad. Rotation angle is customizable from the preference window under View & Controls.
The object the viewport orbits around can be changed by first selecting the object with LMB and press period (.) key on the Numpad.
MMB Scroll can be used to zoom in and out the view, alternatively you can use + and – keys on the numeric keypad. Press Shift+B to zoom within the border. Press Alt+B to clip the view region. The number pad “.” (period) key will center your view up on the selected object on your screen. Press Enter key on the Numpad to reset the zoom operation.
To center view to the cursor press C key. To center the cursor and view all press Shift+C.
If you are lost in the seen, you can press HOME key to zoom (Zoom All) in enough so that you can see your objects. 5 key is used to switch between the orthographic view. Left mouse button will select the objects in the scene as we have changed select object behaviour in the user preferences.
Restricting to the Axis
Press G key to translate the object, if you press X, you can restrict the motion to only in X direction. It restrict the operation in X global axis. Same is true for Y and Z axis. Press the axis key twice to restrict the operation along the object’s local corresponding axis. If you press CTRL while translating the object, you enter in Snap Mode and the object will move by a whole number of units, Grid Squares. Snap modes ends when you release the CTRL key. Use Shift key with the CTRL for finer snapping. To scale or translate along a plane, press Shift and the key corresponding to the axis you do not want changed. For example, to scale an object along its X and Y axes, press S followed by Shift+Z. Similarly you can use R and S keys for rotate and scale. If you want to hide the Gizmo or the manipulator click on the Finger Icon on the header area. If you are rotating a object and you press 90 on keyboard, blender will go ahead and rotate the object 90 degrees, if you press – key on the Numpad if will rotate it in –90 degrees. Backspace key resets the default values. Suppose you want to rotate an object 45 degrees along X axis. Type RX45. When you enter X,Y,Z numbers from keyboard, you can use TAB key to cycle through the axis. For Example to rotate an object 45 in X, 60 in Y and 30 in Z. Enter following sequence from keyboard.
R45, Tab60, Tab30
You can also use period key to enter a decimal value.
Moving changing objects by Changing Attributes
You can copy active objects attributes to any number of other selected objects. The attributes that can be copied include. Location, Rotation, Size, Drwatype, Time Offset, Dupli, Mass, Damping, Properties, Logic Bricks, Protected Transform, Object Constraints, NLA Scripts, Texture Space, Susurf Settings, Modifiers and Object Pass Index. Hotkey for copying the attributes is CTRL+C.

You can see from Fig – 4.1 that Translate Manipulator mode is on by default, you can also select Rotate and Scale modes from there as well. Using these options gives you manipulator in three colors, Red (X), Green (Y) and Blue (Z). Shortcuts for these three operations are.
Translate – CTRL + ALT + G, Rotate – CTRL + ALT + R and Scale – CTRL + ALT + S
These three options are also available in form of a popup. Press CTRL+Spacebar on keyboard to activate that option. At the bottom you will see combo. As seen in Fig – 4.2. Combo gives you all three manipulators at once. Refer Fig – 4.3.

Mouse Movement Shortcuts
As an alternative to the hotkeys mentioned previously, you can rotate, translate, and scale an object by using mouse movement shortcuts. With RMB.
Circular motion enters Rotation mode
Straight line enters Translation mode
Sharp V enters Scale mode
Clear Transformations
You can clear or reset the transformation applied to the object. Shortcut keys for clearing the transformation is listed below.
Clear Location – Alt + G
Clear Rotation – Alt + R
Clear Scale – Alt + S
Clear Origin – Alt + O
You can also access it from Object > Clear / Apply.
Transform Window
You can also enter the exact values for manipulating; position, rotation and scale of the object. Press N key on the keyboard to open up the Numeric window and enter the values. For example, entering a position value of (0,0,0) will place the object at the origin.
Transform Orientation
Transform orientation can be changed to Global, Local, Normal or to the view. Shortcut key for transform orientatrion is ALT + Spacebar.

View :- Coordinate system of the view plane of 3D area where the transformation will occur.
Normal :- Coordinate system based on the direction and the location of normals of meshes.
Local :- The coordinate system of the object itself.
Global :- The coordinate system of the world.
Place a object in the scene, rotate it and go thru all the transformation modes available. Use divide key on the numeric keypad to switch between the Local mode and Global Mode. In local view only object is displayed.

Layers
Objects can be grouped into layers, blender has 20 layers, you can access them from header area. Highlighed yellow in Fig – 4.5. Click on a box to select a layer, shift+click to select multiple layers. User 1 – 0 numeric keys on the main keyboard to select the layers from 1 – 10, for selecting layers from 11 – 20, use key combination Alt+1 to Alt+0. If lock is open, layer visibility only affects that viewport only. If it is locked visibility changes will be reflected on all viewports. Ctrl + ` (back tick) is the shortcut key for lock. To select all the layers press back tick key to deselect hold down shift and press back tick key.
By default, the lock button directly to the right of the layer buttons is pressed; this means that changes to the viewed layers affect all 3D Viewports. To select only certain layers in one window, deselect locking first.

If you want to move object to a new layer, select the objects, press the M key and select the layers you want to move the object. You can shift + select multiple layers in the box.
