TUTORIAL
In MassFX, Each rigid body can be one of three types:Dynamic: The motion of dynamic objects is controlled entirely by the simulation. They are subject to gravity and forces resulting from being struck by other objects in the simulation.
Kinematic: Kinematic objects can be animated using standard methods, but they don't have to be; they can simply be stationary objects. A kinematic object can affect dynamic objects in the simulation but cannot be affected by them. A kinematic object can switch over to dynamic status at any point during the simulation.
Static: Static objects are like kinematic objects but cannot be animated. They are useful as containers, walls, obstacles, and so on.
Before you start working on this tutorial you need two Max scripts available on http://www.scriptspot.com for free:
01. Rock Generator
02. Fracture Voronoi
+ 01. Creating Stone +
Run Rock Generator script and create a rock in the viewport. Next, collapse the modifier stack and scale up the rock. Now, create a ground plane and the projectile that will destroy the rock.+ 02. Fracturing Stone +
Run Fracture Voronoi script and break stone into 10 pieces. You can break large pieces into smaller pieces.+ 03. Creating Rigid Bodies +
Select all fractured pieces and make them Dynamic rigid bodies. Open MassFX dialog box and select Start in Sleep Mode check box from the edit tab. This will ensure that pieces will not move until hit by the projectile. Select Cardborad material preset for all pieces. Next, make projectile Kynamatic rigid body and animate it. Also, assign Static rigid body type to the ground plane.+ 04. Simulation +
Play the simulation, you will notice that some pieces are floating in the air. To fix this, select the plane and set Mesh Type to composite in the Mesh Type drop-down list. Play the simulation again.+ 05. Bake Simulation +
In the Tools tab of MassFX dialog box, choose the Bake All button to bake the simulation. Now, you can scrub the time slider to see the baked simulation.+ 06. Validating +
Choose the Explore Scene button; the Scene Explorer window will be displayed. You can use this window to change some parameters of the rigid bodies. Next, choose Validate Scene button to validate the scene before exporting it. Choose the Export Scene button to export scene into XML, Binary, or Collada file formats.+ VIDEO +
